How To Choose the Right Fly Line Weight

By Brett Fogle Written on the rod blank or handle is a code number which indicates the line that the rod manufacturer suggests is best for most customers; i.e., 6 line. To most fly anglers, this means that they should use nothing but a 6 weight line with this rod. But to get the full potential from different fishing situations, you may want to consider using several line sizes on your rod perhaps varying as much as two line sizes from the one suggested on the rod. Manufacturers know your rod may be used in a host of fishing situations, but they cant judge your casting style and fishing skills. So when they place a recommended line number on your rod, it is implied that its for average fishing conditions. First, understand that youre not going to damage a fly rod using fly line a little lighter or heavier than is recommended. Certainly, at times, the rod will fish better if different line sizes are used. Match line weight to conditions Let me cite several examples of when you might want to use various line weights on the same rod for different fishing conditions you may encounter. First, if you fish a swift, tumbling mountain brook, you can use a rather short leader with a dry fly. A leader of 7-1/2 feet in length would probably do the best job. But if you fish for trout with the same outfit and dry fly on a calm spring creek, beaver pond or quiet lake, that short leader could prevent you from catching many fish. While many fishermen automatically know that on calmer water they have to use longer leaders, many of them dont really probe any deeper into “why” they need a longer leader. It isnt the leaders length thats so important. In calm water, what frightens the trout is the line falling to the surface. The longer the leader, the farther away from the fly is the splashdown of the line. But with a longer leader, the more difficult it is to cast and there is a reduction in accuracy. Thus, a 9-foot leader is more accurate and easier to turn over than a 15-footer. Considering this, plus the fact that the splashdown of the line is what is frightening the trout, there is a simple solution. Use a fly line one size lighter than the rod manufacturer recommends. Jim Green, who has designed fly rods for years and is a superb angler, mentioned to me more than three decades ago that he almost always used a line one size lighter when fishing dry flies where the trout were spooky or the water was calm. I tried it and have routinely followed his advice. So, for example, if you are using a six weight rod, you can drop down to a five weight line with no problem. In fact, in very delicate fishing conditions, I often drop down two sizes in line weights. There is a reason. Weight and speed need to vary. Fly rods are designed to cast a particular weight of line, with a good bit of line speed. If you drop down a line size, you benefit in two ways. One, the line is going to alight on the water softer than a heavier line. Two, because it is not as heavy, it doesnt develop as much line speed. A line traveling at high speed often comes to the water with a heavier impact than one that is moving slower. Even with a line two sizes lighter, you can still cast a dry fly or nymph far more distance than what is called for in delicate trout fishing situations. So you dont hamper yourself at all by using a line lighter than the rod suggests. Best of all, you can now use a shorter leader, since impact on the surface has been lessened. There is a second situation where a lighter than normal line will help you if you are a fairly good caster. The wind is blowing and you need to reach out to a distant target. Many try to solve this common problem by using a line one size heavier. The usual thinking is that a heavier line allows them to throw more weight and, they hope, get more distance. Actually, going to a heavier line means that they complicate the problem. On a cast, the line unrolls toward the target in a loop form. The larger the loop, the more energy is thrown in a direction that is not at the target. When fishermen overload a fly rod with a line heavier than the manufacturer calls for, they cause the rod to flex more deeply, which creates larger loops on longer casts. Overloading the rod wastes casting energy by not directing it at the target. If you switch to a lighter line, you may not have enough weight outside the rod tip to cause the rod to load or flex properly if you hold the normal amount of line outside the rod during casting. But if you extend this lighter line about 10 feet or a little more outside the rod than you normally would for this cast under calm conditions, you can cast a greater distance into the wind. By extending the additional amount of lighter line outside the rod, you cause it to flex as if you were false casting the normal length of the recommended line size. Since the rod is now flexing properly, it will deliver tight loops, but the lighter line is thinner. This means that there will be less air resistance encountered on the cast. If you are forced to cast a longer distance into the wind, switch to one size lighter line and extend a little more line outside the rod tip than you normally would. This means, of course, that you need to be able to handle a longer line during false casting. But the line that is lighter than the rod calls for will let you cast farther into the breeze. Endoscopic Breast Augmentation

By Sara Goldstein Through the advantages of endoscopic breast augmentation (The Endo Aug), women in Las Vegas, Nevada are now able to achieve the breast appearance goals they have always wanted, without the drawbacks of scars and prolonged recovery times. I provide endoscopic breast augmentations (The Endo Aug) so that my patients can worry less about scars and recovery, and more about the terrific results they will see, says Dr. Cambeiro in Las Vegas, Nevada. Endoscopic breast augmentation (The Endo Aug) is a relatively new breast augmentation technique that is currently only provided by top plastic surgeons. Dr. Cambeiro is currently the only plastic surgeon in the Las Vegas, Nevada area to provide patients with endoscopic breast augmentation. He was also voted Las Vegas Top Doc in plastic surgery. Although breast augmentation is one of the most common forms of cosmetic surgery performed in the United States women have many concerns when deciding to have their breasts enlarged. One of the largest concerns women have when deciding on breast augmentation is the appearance of scars after their surgery. In the past, breast augmentation surgery was performed through incisions made either around the areola or in the inframammary crease. Often times, this created scars on the breast, which detracted from the overall results. Now, doctors like Dr. Cambeiro in Las Vegas, Nevada perform endoscopic breast augmentations (The Endo Aug). Endoscopic breast augmentations (The Endo Aug) result in much fewer visible scars, and the recovery time in many patients is less than regular breast augmentation patients. Endoscopic breast augmentations are performed with the use of an endoscope, a tiny, lighted camera that produces images of the breast augmentation area through an incision made in the armpit. During an endoscopic breast augmentation procedure, a very small incision is made in the armpit. Then, the endoscope and surgical devices are inserted and fed to the breast augmentation site. Video of what is happening is displayed on a screen so that the plastic surgeon can complete the breast augmentation procedure. Since the plastic surgeon is able to see the area on which they are performing the surgery, they are better able to place the breast implant, and create a pocket that will minimize capsular contracture and create a more aesthetic breast augmentation. If you are considering breast augmentation, contact a plastic surgeon in your area to find out if they provide endoscopic breast augmentation (The Endo Aug). Please click here for more information about endoscopic breast augmentation (The Endo Aug) in the Las Vegas, Nevada area. Unsecured Loans: Loans Without Collateral

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Philip_Mould]Philip Mould Unsecured loans have come up as high selling loans in the UK market. This has been because of its no collateral requirement and quick approval. Homeowners who can easily pledge their homes as collateral are also among its chief admirers as it prevents then from the danger of their house getting repossessed in case of failure to repay loans. It ensures peace of mind for a borrower although with a price. Therefore, if you are a tenant or a homeowner who fear of putting his house as collateral then you can bank upon unsecured loans to meet your financial requirements. Unsecured loans have many advantages like quick approval, no collateral requirement etc., but it also has its share of disadvantages in high interest rate, low loan amount, and short repayment period. Therefore, its never an alternative to secured loans. If your loan requirements fall within the range, a lender can provide or you dont have collateral to offer and ready to pay a price to avail it then only you should opt for unsecured loans. Its always advisable to select a [http://www.loans-bazaar.co.uk/unsecured-loans.html]loan plan as per your needs and requirements, as one mans poison can be other mans meat. Selecting a loan plan online with the help of Internet can save a lot of your time and efforts. You can request for loan quotes by visiting websites of numerous lenders and then can zero-in on a plan by comparing them. Always compare the loan packages on the basis of APR, as monthly or annual interest rate can be misleading sometimes. Apply online to expedite the processing of your loan application. The lenders will get in touch with you as soon as possible to complete other formalities. Does Size Matter?

By Ron Adler When it comes to trade show displays, size does matter, but bigger is not always better! The size of your display depends on the amount of space you have committed to at the show, and whether it is an island space or an in-line space. It also depends on your target audience and your trade show goals and budgets. Show Flow When laying out your booth design, carefully examine your spot on the show floor plan. Depending on your location (on an isle, near an entrance, near food, etc.) you can determine the ideal flow that is how you would like show attendees to move through your booth. A good display takes foot traffic from any direction, invites it in, and moves it along in a comfortable way. Comfortable Space Be careful not to over-crowd your booth with too much product, too much literature, or an overwhelming display. Show goers have limited time to take it all in, and most dont like to be weighed down with too much information or too much stuff. Over-crowded booths inhibit a good show flow, too, and will cause people to skip your booth in favor of another that is less cramped. Tabletop Displays Some shows - particularly small venue shows, local shows and meetings, or single day shows call for a scaled down version of a display. Tabletop displays as well as Banner Stands are ideal for these events. Many tabletop displays are available as rental displays. Check with your display vendor to see what your options are for small venue shows. In-Line Displays Displays that back up to a wall or to pipe-and-drape are called in-line displays. These displays are most commonly 10×10 or 10×20 displays. Configurations and options for in-line displays are many and include pop-up systems, truss systems and even cabinet and countertop systems. Given your booth size and budget, your display vendor should be able to show you many different options. Island Displays When it comes to making a big impression at a trade show, nothing beats an island display. Visible from all four sides, island displays give exhibitors great options for inviting people into a booth in a comfortable way. Island displays come in limitless configurations, shapes, sizes (and prices!). Your display vendor can tell you what type of display will best fit your budget and trade show goals. Ron Adler has been working in the exhibit industry with Adler Display (http://www.adlerdisplay.com) for over 30 years. EDT, EDP, EDC? The Various Types Cologne And Perfume

By Cody Kahl Not all cologne and perfume is made equally. In fact there are four different concentrations of perfume, each one being very different from the other. In this article I am going to discuss the four different variations of cologne as well as what each concentration may be used for. Did you know that most colognes and perfumes are comprised mainly of alcohol? In fact, most of the fragrances that you see in any shop will only be comprised of 4-10% of actual scented compounds. Of course this varies depending on the perfume that you look at. The rest of the 86-90% of the bottle is made up of alcohol and water. Some fragrances actually have a lower concentration of scented compounds, and some have more. This is where the commonly used EDP, EDT, and EDC come into play. Lets take a look at what these mean. Perfume Also known as Perfume extract, Perfume is the most concentrated and smoothest of the four types. Typically made up of a 20-40% concentration of scented compounds, perfume is definitely the most expensive to buy. Eau de Parfum EDP is typically made up of an 8-16% concentration of scented compounds. EDP is probably the most common type of concentration you will see at the store. An EDP scent will usually fade after four hours, but the base notes can linger for a 24 hour period. Fragrances with an EDP concentration are perfect if you need an all day scent Eau de Toilette EDT is another very common concentration found in many fragrances. EDT is typically made up of a 4-8% concentration of scented compounds. Some people find that some EDT perfumes last a long while, but generally these are better left for night time use where the scent isnt needed for as long. Eau de Cologne EDC isnt commonly found in any fragrances anymore. It doesnt last that long, and is typically only made with a 2-4% concentration of scented compounds. Now you will know what all those fancy French names are on the side of your favorite mens cologne bottle. Whether you need a longer duration scent for work, or something a little shorter for the clubs, you are now one step ahead of the crowd! Relationship Advice - What If You Live With A Depressed Partner?

By Steve Roberts I was apparently born mildly depressed. I’ve always known low energy and a very low amount of enthusiasm. I’m 53 years old and I only beat depression for good two years ago. What a long time for my wife to live with someone depressed! In the beginning, we didn’t know any better. The critical sullenness that became more prevalent over the years was tempered with hope that the next job, or the next move, or even the next TV show would shake me out of it. How I regret that she had to put up with my mood all those years! What about your relationship? Is there hidden depression? Is it out in the open? Now is the time to face it. Let’s not put it off any longer. We’re not talking here about situational depression, that some call a case of having the “blues.” Situational depression comes, but then it goes. Right now we’re talking about the real thing that hangs on and on. The person’s mood is chronically low, self esteem suffers, and there is a pervasive negativity. It may be “Major Depression” which is the big deal, or more likely, it may just be like mine: a chronic inability to take joy out of life, while otherwise being able to function just fine. I always looked for distractions. Television was a common avoidance mechanism. Sugar was a payoff for feeling “low.” Caffeine was the stimulant of choice. And, my relationship with my wife was more often a “should do” rather than a “want to” or a “get to.” What about you or your partner? Are there too many distractions? Are there things that get too much attention while your relationship suffers? Are there any addictions starting to show: alcohol, drugs, over-eating, over-working, or over-something? There are many things that can cause some of these problems other than depression, but if you suspect depression, mild or severe, consider these things: 1. Talk it over with your doctor, minister, or counselor. You may need more than one opinion. Mild depression is so normal that some professionals will just dismiss it. It’s fine to feel good about quick assurances, but it is also OK to seek a second opinion. 2. Increase your exercise routine as a couple. Exercise releases those feel good chemicals called endorphins and elevates mood. It’s also a positive activity to do together that builds positive expectations for being together. 3. Increase your social activities as a couple (unless this is already one of those excessive things.) Depression normally leads to some degree of isolation. Being with people also elevates mood by producing those endorphins. (Hugs do, too, so hug a lot!) 4. If the doctor suggests anti-depressant medication, definately consider it. I first tried such medication around the age of 40. While my results were quite dramatic and out of the norm, it was as though I could see in color for the first time in my life! I suddenly knew what I’d been missing all those years, as well as, what my wife had been missing in me! 5. Buy an inexpensive copy of “Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy” by Dr. David Burns, along with the companion workbook. This “new” mood therapy isn’t so new, since I’ve been recommending this book for the last 15 years, but it is still the most user-friendly cognitive therapy you can find for depression. It is simple to use, but still a sophisticated approach. 6. Encourage “positive anticipation.” This means to look forward to things. We now know that this simple mental exercise causes the brain to secrete more dopamine, a neurotransmitter essential for a better mood. This mechanism is what really changed my life two years ago. I learned that I can control my mood simply by looking forward to what is before me. For instance, I might consciously look forward to the experience of writing this newsletter for you. I can enjoy the possibility that a percentage of readers willed be helped. I might anticipate my first client of the day and feel some level of joy that I get to see that person again. And, I will remind myself to look forward with positive expectancy to seeing my wife this evening. All these conscious choices of “how to be” will add dopamine to my system and will make me feel very good. Sometimes, just these simple steps will do what you need, but at times it is far more complex. That’s why we have professionals to help us out. So, make use of them! I regret the 15 years of married life that could have been so much better if only I knew of the treatment options. I don’t want you to have a similar experience! Depression? Take care of it now. It is so possible to feel good again. I know. Choosing a Marketing Research Firm: 10 Critical Questions

By Rebecca Anton If your organization is considering a marketing research project, it is critical to select the most effective methodology for meeting your particular goals. Four data collection methods are commonly available for conducting marketing researchtelephone surveys, web and mail surveys or interactive voice response systems. Computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) is by far the most popular methodology for collecting data used in marketing research today. This is because telephone surveys have a high response rate and are particularly helpful when a company needs to screen potential respondents to get to the most appropriate person to answer their questions. With CATI research, a survey is developed, tested, and then programmed into an interactive computer-based script. CATI begins with a computer randomly dialing phone numbers from the established sample. After a respondent is reached, a live interviewer conducts the interview by reading verbatim from the programmed survey script. If the correct person is not available, the interviewer may schedule a callback for a specific time in the future. The data set will contain not only answers to each question, but also a complete log of what happened with each sample record. CATI is the best data collection method when: Surveys are transaction-based, and thus time-sensitive. Typically, if asking questions regarding a specific experience or representative involved in a specific experience, the telephone survey should be completed within four weeks of the transaction/experience. There is a need to screen for the appropriate participants. For example, finding the person who had direct contact with a Service Department. Here the interviewer will ask for the person listed in the sample file. Once that individual is on the phone, the interviewer asks if he/she had direct contact with the Service Department. If so, the interview continues. If not, the interviewer asks to speak with the person who did. The sample does not contain the respondents name. For instance, if there is a business name and number for business policies, but no contact name. In this case, the interviewer can explain whom he/she is trying to reach. There are multiple versions of the survey. For example, there are differences in which questions are asked of whom and/or the survey is being fielded for multiple brands or product types. In this case, the script can read directly from the sample file and pipe in different text depending on the respondents brand or type. It can also skip over questions that are not applicable. The telephone survey requires extensive quota cell management. For example, you may want to get a specific number of completes for each brand. Then within those brands, you may want a certain percentage to be for B2C policies and another for B2B policies. The survey requires extensive explanation or clarification. For example, a respondent may need clarification regarding some of the industry terms used in the telephone survey. The survey contains follow-up or probing open-ended questions. For example, the respondent may say that they were very dissatisfied with their overall service experience. In this case, the next question may be to probe for specifics (e.g. Why specifically did you say you were very dissatisfied with your service experience?) Often, the initial answer is fairly vague (e.g., because the service wasnt good). The interviewer, however, will probe to get specifics that are actionable within your organization. You have accurate phone numbers for the majority of the intended respondents. (Remember that, by law, cell phone numbers cannot be used.) You do not have enough sample for IVR and/or mail. Since the response rate is higher for CATI, it will take a less usable sample to achieve the desired number of completes. The targeted respondents are busy people. CATI can record scheduled callback times, allowing the interviewer to call the respondent back at a time/number convenient for them. The subject of the survey is not too sensitive or controversial. Respondents may be unwilling to discuss sensitive topics with the interviewer. (Mail is the best data collection method for sensitive topics). Once you have determined CATI is the best methodology for your next project, selecting a qualified marketing research firm is the next important decision. Consider these 10 critical questions when searching for a qualified marketing research firm to conduct CATI research for your organization: Do you use the latest CATI software? (The most up-to-date software will include predictive dialing and automated call distributor capabilities.) Does the phone facility have sufficient flexibility and capacity? (This ensures the facility can handle multiple projects simultaneously.) Can phone stations be assigned for either outbound or inbound calls? (This allows busy professionals to return a call at their convenience, resulting in higher response rates and more representative samples.) Can interview scripting access external databases? (This means that questions can be customized to a specific respondent, integrating information on purchases or revenue.) Can the system play prerecorded messages and digitally capture voice responses? (This allows the interviewer to use conferencing to bring a client representative into the call immediately and/or transfer the respondent to a client-specified location, such as a customer service department.) Are predictive dialers used? (Predictive dialers randomly call numbers in the sample list, turning over the survey to an interviewer only when it detects a “live” respondent, thus dramatically increasing interviewing productivity.) Does the call center have redundant quality checks? (This ensures that skip patterns are followed precisely and questions are rotated randomly.) Is monitoring equipment used? (This allows clients to listen to surveys in progress from their own offices, as well as interviewing center supervisors and project managers to continuously monitor the interviews.) Are telephone surveys pre-tested? (Test interviews check the survey instrument both for ease of administration, accuracy and usefulness of the information.) Are interviewers experienced? (Interviewers are charged with a very demanding responsibility: conducting quality, professional interviews resulting in accurate survey databases.) When a marketing research firm answers these 10 critical questions, you will be well-informed and can make the best decision about their CATI capability. Choosing a qualified research partner, along with the most appropriate methodology, will result in the most valuable data for your organization. Addicted To Celebrity Weddings

By Felicia Rillsbrook Most people love a wedding, and when you combine that with the obsession we have for celebrities Every so often, after reading about some celebrities wedding and what it cost, I would wonder why they even bothered. These lavish weddings really amaze me. Some celebrities spend millions just to wed and pamper their guests only to get divorced within a few years. Granted when they are saying till death us do part they are not planning a future divorce in the back of their minds, well not normally, but so many of the marriages end in court cases. I have to admit, I love to look at photos of glamorous celebrity wedding days. I enjoy gazing at the gowns and decorations. The cakes are unique and extravagant; I always imagine they taste as wonderful as they look. I also love to see pictures of the guests to see how many other celebrities were attending. The weddings of celebrities are always a top priority for the media as they attract more attention than they probably deserve. Of course, some of the weddings have resulted in what appears to be a happily ever after story book ending. There are some famous couples who have been together for a very long time, which is an encouraging thought. Many of the weddings are held out of the country in an attempt to avoid the paparazzi and media frenzy. They try to keep wedding dates and locations top secret to further avoid the attention. Sometimes they are successful, but, once the media has even the whiff of a wedding, they will camp out for days in the hope of a photo opportunity. Let’s face it, the wedding will provide some photographer with a great deal of money. When photos do surface from these weddings, brides-to-be cut out the photos and carry them around with them. They want their cake to resemble some celebrity or anothers cake; they want their hair to be done like the celebrities was. Brides want to wear dresses that a particular celebrity wore. It seems to be not uncommon for people to abandon having their own unique wedding in order to copy that of a celebrity. In fact many fans planning their weddings will find out where the celebrity couple spent their honeymoon and attempt to visit there too. Something I have always wondered is, if you are invited to celebrities wedding, what in the world do you take as a gift? After all you are attending a wedding of a celebrity - what can you get them that they don’t already have? Personally I’d just like to have the money that is spent to have one of these lavish celebrity weddings. I’d even take a quarter of the money. Or, if any celebs are out there reading, how about an invitation?
